I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Family and Human Development from Utah State University a long time ago! After graduation, I worked with autistic kids in an early childhood education setting. It was hard work but so rewarding! I took a break from education to be a full time mom for 18 years. I have 5 kids, 4 boys and 1 girl and I love being a mom! During those 18 years, I worked hard to teach my own children and spent 15 years working with different charter schools. I am a founding member of two charter schools in Utah and spent 12 years as a board member at Venture Academy in Marriott Slaterville. I returned to teaching at Greenwood when my oldest boys (twins) were Juniors in High School. I am so thrilled to be a part of Greenwood. I taught a 5/6 split in elementary for a year followed by 2 years of middle school English at Greenwood before taking the Director’s position. I have a passion for teaching and for working with children. I love that I get to work with amazing students and staff everyday at Greenwood and I’m looking forward to building an amazing program and culture here!
I am so honored to be part of the Greenwood family! I received my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Weber State University in 2012 and taught first through fourth grade for 5 years before becoming an instructional coach. I have always been fond of connecting my students to nature and the world around them. I believe that the teacher's role in education should be to foster a love of lifelong learning, act as a guide for students to navigate the skills they need to be successful, and connect them to their community and each other in meaningful ways. I believe that the philosophies of Greenwood and EL Education are strongly connected to my own, and I look forward to coaching our teachers into being the best educators they can be, and achieving more than they think possible!
My personal hobbies and interests include traveling and exploring new places (especially historic sites), reading, listening to music, the great outdoors, and spending time with family. I love the exciting opportunities that travel brings, and I feel fortunate every time I can explore a new place. I love the connections that visiting historic sites can provide, and contemplating the similarities and differences between people then and now. I look forward to a wonderful school year full of discovery and adventure!
I am the Dean of Culture at Greenwood Charter School. I grew up in a small town outside Augusta, Georgia. I was the kid that loved being outdoors and trying to be friends with everyone. I moved to Banner Elk, North Carolina to develop my love for the outdoors by receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife Biology. While learning more about myself in the Blue Ridge Mountains, I discovered my interest in working with youth. I spent six summers at Holston Camp as a Counselor and Program Director. This experience guided my career goals toward Environmental Education. I worked as a Naturalist/Environmental Educator in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and Lanesboro, Minnesota. In these opportunities, I learned valuable knowledge on how to help students learn to appreciate and respect the environment.
I recently finished up two years at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan as a Residence Hall Coordinator. I primarily focused on creating engaging programs, fostering community, and guiding students toward making responsible decisions.
I believe my previous positions have given me the right experience to help the students at Greenwood. I am excited to continue to develop the Environmental Stewardship for the students and faculty. I am looking forward to being in Utah, to embrace the outdoors by hiking, biking, camping, and skiing. I also enjoy watching movies and reading books in my free time.
