Welcome to 2nd Grade! We are thrilled to have you join us as we learn and grow! In 2nd grade we explore and learn in many different ways with a focus on FUN with purpose!
Throughout the year, all second grade students will become more experienced readers, researchers, and writers as they explore the world around them, as well as the earth long ago, through Expeditionary Learning.
We learn in complex ways and strive to build an appreciation for learning across all subjects!
I believe in having fun and doing things well. As an individual, I am very passionate about what I do in life and always try to have fun doing it. I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. My two youngest brothers can attest to this due to countless hours of getting to play school with me. I believe that we should not be afraid of failing and making mistakes. It is part of what helps to grow. I want to be there for my students as they succeed, make mistakes or even fail. I believe that those can be the most powerful teaching moments.
I have been working in schools since 2005. I have worked with a wide range of disabilities and behaviors, as well as worked with students ranging in age from 4-22 years old. This will be my 7th year at an Expeditionary Learning School. I love EL. Incorporating mastery of knowledge and skill as well as character and high-quality student work, all into how you approach education is amazing! I constantly feel pushed and so my students. The culture and aspect of being a crew aligns with some of my core beliefs.
Having the opportunity to take my love for EL learning and use it with the mission at Greenwood is so exciting! GreenWood provides quality holistic education to all students by providing opportunities for them to be active, knowledgeable, creative, and conscientious individuals. GreenWood inspires a healthy balance in life through healthy eating habits, exercise, personal discovery, service learning, and environmental stewardship. I feel that all of these things are truly important and am looking forward to combining it with Expeditionary Learning.
I was born in Utah but quickly moved to Santa Cruz, CA as a baby. My family moved back to Utah, where I finished high school. I love both states and consider both to be my home. Volunteer work is something that I am very passionate about. I have been a volunteer Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocate with a women's shelter for 7 years. Prior to that I helped to run a summer camp for kids with cancer and their siblings, Camp Hobe. I have been a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah. I spent two years working to pilot a 12 step program for loved ones with someone struggling with addiction. I have enjoyed every opportunity I have had to volunteer and help make our world a better place. I also have a fluffy friend named Charlie. Charlie is my dog and he goes to GreenWood too!! Having my best friend come to school and help provide student support is something that he and I love.
I LOVE GreenWood and love being a part of helping to make it grow.
This is where fun stuff happens.
